The benefits of low maintenance Polywood furniture

With the soon coming spring, those who have the joy of owning Polywood outdoor furniture look forward to warm evenings on their porches, patios, and decks.  Polywood furniture has some amazing characteristics.  It doesn't splinter, is stain resistant, is mold and mildew resistant, is insect resistant, doesn't rot, and never needs to be sealed, stained, or painted.

However, it does get dirty!  And after a long winter of accumulating dirt and leaves in its cracks and crevices, it may even have some mildew attached to some of its surfaces.  But because it is made from high density recycled plastics, the mildew cannot sink below the surface and become almost impossible to remove like it does on wood furniture.  This makes it relatively easy to clean.

In most cases, you can clean your Poly furniture with some warm water and detergent, like dawn, and some elbow grease with a soft nylon bristle brush.  For tougher areas, try adding some household bleach to your cleaning solution.  Our two largest Poly furniture builders, Luxcraft and Berlin Gardens, both distribute a specially formulated Poly cleaning solution which we sell in our store.  We have also had great success with a product called 30 Second Cleaner, which is available in most big box stores.

Remember to wear old work clothes and shoes when you are using bleach or these other specialty cleaners because it is impossible to keep from getting splashes on your clothing no matter how careful you try to be, and it will make permanent spots on your clothes.  Trust me, I know from experience!

I only mention this lastly, because you need to be an experienced power washer to keep from damaging the surface of your furniture, but if you are careful, you can power wash your Poly furniture.  Never use a PSI of more than 1500 and keep the wand at least 12" from the surface!

Enjoy your Polywood furniture and please let us know if you have any questions.
